Governor Stein announced major manufacturing investments, job growth, health care cost efforts, coastal protection advocacy, and disaster relief fundraising.

Governor Josh Stein outlined a series of economic, health and resilience initiatives across North Carolina this week.

At a Greenville roundtable with DHHS Secretary Dr. Dev Sangvai, he highlighted efforts to relieve medical debt and urged the General Assembly to act to lower health care costs for families.

Several large private investments were announced: Novartis will expand pharmaceutical manufacturing in Durham and Wake counties, investing $771 million and adding about 700 jobs by 2030; Vulcan Elements plans a $918.1 million magnet plant in Benson — focused on rare‑earth magnet production and billed as the largest facility outside China — creating 1,000 jobs in Johnston County; Fit Precast will build a $102 million concrete pipe facility in Gastonia, bringing 125 jobs; and Maersk selected Charlotte for its North American headquarters, committing $16 million and roughly 520 new jobs.

Stein also visited The Smith Family Behavioral Health Urgent Care in Charlotte to stress broader access to mental health treatment.

On policy, he urged Congress to pass H.R. 3161 (Preventing Environmental Hazards Act of 2025) to aid coastal homeowners at risk from erosion and collapse, and criticized recent Border Patrol practices that detain many without convictions.

At the North Carolina Awards in Asheville, state leaders and cultural agencies raised nearly $200,000 for Hurricane Helene recovery.
