Neo opens rare-earth magnet plant in Estonia

Neo opened a new rare-earth magnet plant in Estonia with EUR 14.5 million EU support to bolster European supply chains.

On Sept. 19, Neo Performance Materials inaugurated a rare-earth magnet manufacturing facility in Narva, Estonia.
Backed by a EUR 14.5 million grant from the EU Just Transition Fund, the plant aims to strengthen European supply chains for rare-earth magnets used in electric motors, wind turbines and other electrified systems.

The Narva facility is positioned to play a catalytic role in reshoring downstream magnet production, shortening logistics, and improving traceability of critical materials. That localized capacity could help automotive OEMs, suppliers and clean-energy projects reduce exposure to concentrated global supply sources.

Industry observers say the investment reflects a broader European push to diversify magnet and critical-minerals value chains, combining public support with industrial capacity expansion. Challenges remain around scaling output and securing feedstock, but the plant represents a tangible step toward stronger regional manufacturing for components central to electrification and decarbonization strategies.
