Logitech selected innovators in recyclable PCB substrates, paper-based batteries and samarium iron nitride magnets to reduce carbon and improve electronics circularity.
Logitech announced the three winners of its 2025 Future Positive Challenge, spotlighting scalable technologies to cut carbon and improve circularity in electronics production.\n\nJiva Materials Ltd (UK) developed a fully recyclable, biodegradable printed circuit board substrate that dissolves in hot water at end-of-life, enabling easier recovery of components and valuable metals.\n\nFlint Labs Pte Ltd (Singapore) is advancing rechargeable paper-based batteries designed to be lower carbon, safer, more flexible and cost-efficient alternatives to conventional lithium-ion and alkaline chemistries.\n\nSuzhou CIYI Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. (China) presented a Samarium Iron Nitride (SmFeN) permanent magnet intended to replace neodymium-based (NdFeB) magnets in low- and mid-grade motors and sensors; SmFeN offers strong magnetic performance, high-temperature stability, corrosion resistance, and benefits from greater samarium availability and recyclability.\n\nWinners will engage with Logitech on proof-of-concept work to assess manufacturability, scalability and potential reductions in product carbon footprint. An additional firm, GRST Holdings, received recognition for water-based manufacturing methods, PFAS-free binders and lithium-ion battery recycling approaches.\n\nLogitech cites prior Challenge partnerships—such as Elephantech and Bin-e—as examples of successful commercialization paths and plans to reopen the competition for 2026 applicants.
