New Lucknow plant boosts domestic production of titanium, superalloys and complex aero-engine components for India’s defence sector.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Titanium & Superalloy Materials Plant at PTC Industries’ Strategic Materials Technology Complex in Lucknow, underscoring the need to domestically produce critical materials and components for defence and aerospace.
The 50-acre facility, built with an investment of around Rs. 1,000 crore, has a production capacity exceeding 6,000 tonnes per year and can process aviation-grade titanium and superalloys from domestic and recycled sources. It is intended to supply structural castings and high-value aero-engine components used in fighter jets, missiles, naval systems and satellites.
PTC has received Letters of Technical Acceptance from CEMILAC for titanium rear fin root castings for the AMCA and for oil tank assembly castings for the Kaveri Derivative Engine (KDE-2). The plant also holds a post-cast order to produce single-crystal "ready-to-fit" turbine blades for KDE-2 — a complex, high-performance component critical to modern engines.
A memorandum with Bharat Dynamics aims to co-develop propulsion systems, guided munitions and small aero-engines, while collaborations with DRDO labs (DMRL, GTRE, ADA) support indigenisation. Officials say the complex will spur the UP Defence Industrial Corridor, create skilled jobs, and advance India’s push from Make-in-India toward designing, developing and delivering advanced defence technologies.
