China August rare earth exports dip 3.4%

Consumer Electronics

China's rare earth exports fell 3.4% in August to 5,792 tons, while year‑to‑date shipments rose 14.5% to 44,355 tons.

China’s rare earth shipments eased in August, slipping 3.4% month‑on‑month to 5,792 metric tons, according to data from the General Administration of Customs.
The shipments comprise a group of 17 minerals that are critical for electric vehicles, consumer electronics and defence applications. Exports fell from 5,994 tons in July but remained above last August’s 4,723 tons.
A more detailed breakdown, including figures for rare earth magnets, is due on September 20; magnets had recovered to a six‑month high in July, the customs data showed.
Despite the monthly dip, year‑to‑date exports through August rose 14.5% from a year earlier to 44,355 tons, underscoring continued external demand for the sector’s feedstocks. The monthly volatility highlights the interplay between domestic policy, processing capacity and global end‑use demand in the strategic rare earth supply chain.
