China granted general export licences for rare-earth items after exporters met compliance requirements following policy briefings and new controls.
China's Ministry of Commerce said Thursday it has received and approved applications for general export licences covering rare-earth-related items from several Chinese exporters. The approvals follow Beijing's introduction of export controls on rare-earth-related goods and a series of policy briefings for domestic exporters, ministry spokesman He Yadong told a news conference in Beijing. He said that as exporters gain experience with the new export procedures and strengthen compliance, some firms now meet the basic requirements to obtain general licences. The move aims to balance tighter regulation of outbound shipments with a pathway for qualified companies to resume controlled exports. Rare earths are critical inputs for magnets, catalysts and advanced electronics, so licence decisions will influence global supply chains and technology sectors.
